Hurricane Stan - Children's Experience 1, 2, 3

These are a section of comments made by children directly affected by the storm. As part of the support process, a number of children were invited to share their thoughts and feelings with words or pictures. They are reproduced here with permission.

For my dear friend Josué,

My friend, I miss you. Why did you have to go and leave me here alone? I wish you hadn’t gone, but now nobody can do anything for you. You have left me but I want to tell you that I’m never going to forget you in my whole life. I’ll always remember you by day and by night. Goodbye my friend. I won’t see you later.

I am so sorry about my friend who died when the landslide came and she died there, and I remember when we played together in school and we talked and laughed. When we left class we walked home together and that’s why I think of her so much.

The memory that my friend left me is of when she and I played together and we talked about the games we were making up, and I felt really bad when I saw that my friend was dead. She was caught in the current of water, and now we can’t go back and play. When the morning came she didn’t wake up. The current of water made her die.
